The one thing that I have noticed is that If there are digital ch.s operating on the same "virtual" chanel but located in different [antenna] directions, there is a good chance of cross recption.  There are still a few that operate on the lower band[2 thru 13] .   I,m not sure how well the smaller uhf only antennas recieve these signals.   Anyway OTA is expanding, and the advertsing cost is a fraction of that of cable or small dish.  Also advisters can "target" the aera they want.  Jess out in California

Seems like a strange group of ch's when the UHF is now from 14 thru 69. The other ch's from 70 to 83 are already used for something other than TV.  Jess out in California

Even if we wind up with just Ch 14-31, won't that leave us with 170 selections ?
Or am I wrong in thinking there's (at this time) 10 sub channels per ?

So; If I understand this discusion about the FCC selling of the spectrun, eventually there will be no ch,s left.  The end of "free" TV! [another thread].  Jess out in California

I haven't seen anyone running 10 sub channels. OTA is Mpeg 2, utilizing 6 mhz of bandwidth. Running one HD and 2 SD sub channels start to show grunge on the SD and softens the HD. 10 channels may look good on a cell phone screen but not on a 40 inch TV.

You got me thinking about this, and that's not easy at my age :D
So, I did a check and you're right, most only have 8 or less

Here is a current list of OTA channels i get from the Sarasota FL area.

61 channels!

Including all the networks, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, ION, CW,

Plus many good channels THIS TV, GET TV, Escape, GRIT, Movies, and more!

This is pointing my antenna in just 2 different directions so far, maybe there is more?

I am using a Supersonic SC-603 OTA Antenna.

I scanned these in tonight using the tuner on a 19" Samsung TV, connected to a Supersonic SC-603 OTA antenna.

Scanned in a new one tonight:

28.3 WFTS D3 GRIT

Added it to my list above.

Not sure how long its been there, but less than a month i know that.

I scanned this in using my Linkbox 8000 HD Local, which i am using for my OTA tuner now, instead of the TV itself.

I also scanned in something weird off my OTA antenna.

At 641000 KHz i scanned in a mux of 3 channels.

Shows as:

$ Starz
$ SHO
$ Airbox

Shows encryption Nagra 1 and is black screen. But, I have never scanned in $ encryption channels on my OTA antenna ever. I dont get it.  But i can say for sure it is off my OTA antenna, this box is not connected to a sat dish at all!

Weird.

On my Linkbox Local it does not tell me the channel number but scanned in at 641000 KHz, which should be around channel 42-43.

Then a second time a couple days later scanned in at 60500, which should be channel 36-37.
