Can I connect Multiple 4x1 switches to get 16 ports?

I am hoping someone can advise me with this configuration
If I connect the common port of a 4x1 Diseqc switch to each of the 4 ports of a fifth 4x1 switch to attempt to get 16 ports how should I program my receiver/
I have a DJ-1997 from Manhattan. It shows a Diseqc 1.0/1.1 menu item with 1/16 selections. It also shows an Uncommitted 1/16 selection. the switches are EMP Centauri.
Can I accomplish this task with this Rx and switches?

You will need to use an 8x1 port switch that uses 1.1 but can operate separate from the 4x1 switches. With that setup you can get 32 ports. Hyper had some Pansat switches that should work for this. E_V

It all began for me with a fixed Hotdish75 on 97W.

jje64,
I have never used a dish motor so I remember that complex Diseqc switching configurations have perplexed me too for awhile until I did some research on it and actually put it into practice on my own multiple dish systems, This should help you, but you must understand that 4x1 Diseqc switches are examples of committed switches and 8x1 Diseqc switches are examples of uncommitted switches. Your receiver addresses 4x1 Diseqc switches using the 1.0 Diseqc protocol and 8x1 Diseqc switches using the 1.1 Diseqc protocol. The Diseqc 1.0 protocol controls up to 4 ports and the Diseqc 1.1 protocol controls up to 16 ports. You can go up to 32 ports by daisy chaining a combination of an uncommitted Diseqc switch and committed Diseqc switches. You cannot daisy chain multiple 4x1 Diseqc committed switches without using an 8x1 uncommitted switch. Like El_Viejo stated, you must introduce one 8x1 Diseqc switch as a master and three 4x1 Diseqc switches as slaves in the configuration to get your desired 16 ports. Then, any receiver that supports both the Diseqc 1.0 and Diseqc 1.1 protocols will be compatible and be able to control the configuration. And since you are not using any 0/22 Hz Tone switches, either Standard, Universal or a mixture of LNB's can be used. The switching happens auto magically when you change channels on your receiver but bear in mind that when you change from one satellite to another it can sometimes take a second for the diseqc protocol to make the transition.
To program you receiver, lets picture a configuration of five LNB's connected directly to port 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the master 8x1 Diseqc switch and then the input of the first 4x1 slave diseqc switch connected to port 6, the input of the second 4x1 slave Diseqc switch connected to port 7 and finally the input of a third slave 4x1 Diseqc switch connected to port 8. For the first five LNB's, on ports 1 through 5 of the 8x1 master Diseqc switch, you program your LNB setup with Diseqc 1.0 tuned off and using Diseqc 1.1 protocol only. For the remaining LNB's 6 through 16, you will program using both protocols. For standard LNB's, set 22 Hz Tone to OFF where as Universal LNB's should be set to AUTO (usually set for you auto magically). Here is and idea of what it should look like:
LNB01 Diseqc 1.0 Turned Off, Diseqc 1.1 Port 1
LNB02 Diseqc 1.0 Turned Off, Diseqc 1.1 Port 2
LNB03 Diseqc 1.0 Turned Off, Diseqc 1.1 Port 3
LNB04 Diseqc 1.0 Turned Off, Diseqc 1.1 Port 4
LNB05 Diseqc 1.0 Turned Off, Diseqc 1.1 Port 5
LNB06 Diseqc 1.0 Port 1, Diseqc 1.1 Port 6
LNB07 Diseqc 1.0 Port 2, Diseqc 1.1 Port 6
LNB08 Diseqc 1.0 Port 3, Diseqc 1.1 Port 6
LNB09 Diseqc 1.0 Port 4, Diseqc 1.1 Port 6
LNB10 Diseqc 1.0 Port 1, Diseqc 1.1 Port 7
LNB11 Diseqc 1.0 Port 2, Diseqc 1.1 Port 7
LNB12 Diseqc 1.0 Port 3, Diseqc 1.1 Port 7
LNB13 Diseqc 1.0 Port 4, Diseqc 1.1 Port 7
LNB14 Diseqc 1.0 Port 1, Diseqc 1.1 Port 8
LNB15 Diseqc 1.0 Port 2, Diseqc 1.1 Port 8
LNB16 Diseqc 1.0 Port 3, Diseqc 1.1 Port 8

Thank you for the very comprehensive response. I fully understand it. I will give it a try in the next few days as I just received some 8x1 uncommitted GEOSAT switches this morning.

The proposed 1x8 followed by a 1x4 works with a quick test.
I need to fully wire the system, but a proof of concept test is working. This helps a lot!!
Thanks
