DishPointer Sat Pointing Website using Google Earth, Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps

This is my favorite dish pointing website out there. I no longer use anything else.

Code:
www.dishpointer.com

Simply put in your address and it uses google maps to show you actual satellite imagery of your hous/apartment - or for you rich guys your mansion, and shows you a "line of sight" on where to point your dish for each particular satellite you select.

Check it out, its really good.

You can also get your long, lat, declination angle and your true south sat,

plus you can see a list of all satellites available and what size dish you need for each sat, or if its out of the foortprint for your location.

Very good stuff.

For you webmasters, Dishpointer provides a neat widget that allows you to put their Dishpointer window on your website.  It's free.  Here are their requirements.

Please place a link to DishPointer.com on your website and drop me a short email - these are the only conditions I have together with that the widget must be freely accessible by anyone, i.e. must not be behind a paid login.

Wow. This is great.

I can see the pool in my back yard using this, and it really helps point in the general direction.

Even tells you what size dish you need for any given sat.

Good question. On prime focus dishes it would be extremely accurate, but for offset dishes like what we all use for Ku it will just be very close as different manufacturers of dishes use a slightly different offset angle.

For me, i use an angle finder tool and it is always much more accurate than the scale on the dish.

simba8986,

Lets say dishpointer tells you elevation should be 34.62 degrees fo a given sat.

Find out what the offset angle is on the dish, for my 36" Fortec it's 24.62 degrees.

So subtract the offset from the angle dishpointer gave you and with an angle finder or protracter you would set the dish at 10 degrees.

See this thread where i explain it all with pictures and everything:

Hope that helps.
